Progress Report: Determining Which of the Given Fractions is Bigger, Determining Which Given Improper Fraction is Equal to the Given Mixed Number

Determining Which of the Given Fractions is Bigger

This task is usually easy to solve with logic (or with a pie for each fraction). When the given fractions are different in denominator and numerator, one way to do it is to multiply the numerators by the denominators of the other fraction. Then multiply the denominators by each other so they are the same and still represent the same ratio. Then you can figure out which is bigger by the fraction with the bigger numerator since the denominators of both fractions are the same.

Determining Which Given Improper Fraction is Equal to the Given Mixed Number

One way to solve this problem only involves the given mixed number being converted to an improper fraction, then finding the given improper fraction that is equal to the mixed number that was converted to an improper fraction. To convert the mixed number to an improper fraction, multiply the whole number by the denominator, then add the product to the numerator.
