Martin Luther King Jr

Who is he? 
Martin Luther King Jr is a Baptist minister and also led the Civil Rights Movement in the 1950s. He was born in January 15, in Atlanta, Georgia. He birth-name was Michael Luther King Jr. As of becoming a successful minister, he changed his name to Martin Luther King Jr; In honor of religious leader and German protestant, Martin Luther. Despite his family being involved in worship and the church, he questioned religion and was uncomfortable with displays of religious worship. During his junior year, he took a Bible class, which returned his faith. 

How about his education? 
Martin Luther King went to Booker T. Washington High School; He was said to be a very mature student. He skipped the 9th and 11th grade and went to the Morehouse College in Atlanta in 1944 at the age of 15. He was a popular student, but also unmotivated. In 1948 he got a sociology degree and went to the Crozer Theological Seminar in Pennsylvania. In 1951, he was valedictorian and elected student body president. After being accepted in multiple colleges for his doctoral study, King enrolled in Boston University. In 1955, he finished his Ph.D. and got his degree at the age of 25.   

How did he get the idea to change the world? 
In his final year in seminary, he met Benjamin E. Mays; President of Morehouse College. He influenced Martin's spiritual development. Benjamin E. Mays was an advocate for racial equality. He encouraged Martin Luther King Jr to see Christianity as a possible force for change.  

Is he married? 
Yes. While working on his doctorate, the highest degree a graduate school, he met Coretta Scott, a musician and singer, at the New England conservatory school in Boston. In June 1953, they got married and had 4 children; Bernice, Dexter, Martin Luther King III, and Yolanda.
