Who is Mother Teresa?
Mother Teresa founded the Order of the Missionaries of Charity; a religious group that helps the destitute. She was born in August 26, 1910 in Skopje, Capital of the Republic of Macedonia and baptized as Agnes Bojaxhiu on the following day.
What did she do?
Her order started a hospice; a home that cares for those with disability, those with blindness, and the old. She also started an open-air school and even had a house built for the poor. In 1979, she was given the Nobel Peace Prize for the work she did. She then died in September 5, 1997 due to lung, heart, and kidney issues.
Did any miracles happen?
At the one-year death anniversary of Mother Teresa, an Indian woman named Monica Besra claimed to have been cured of an abdominal tumor through Mother Teresa's intercession. Because of this, Pope John Paul II beatified Agnes Bojaxhiu as Blessed Teresa of Calcattu at October 19, 2003. Another miracle was when a man named Marcilo Andrino was diagnosed with viral brain infection and fell into a coma, so his family and friends prayed to Mother Teresa. After he was taken to surgery, Marcilo woke up with no pain was cured of his symptoms.
How about her parents?
Her father was greatly in the local church and city politics. In 1919, Agnes' father became ill and died while she was only 8. Her mother, Drana Bojaxhiu, was a very kind woman. Despite not being wealthy, Drana would invite the poor to eat with them.
So, what does all of this mean?
As a conclusion, she was considered the 20 Century's greatest humanitarian, a person who does something to help humanity. She was then declared as Saint Teresa of Calcutta at September 4, 2016; one day before her death anniversary.
