Gaming Part 3 (Make it! Don't break it!)

In the previous article, I was discussing the uses of gaming in exercise and military training. In the article, I will be describing the how games are made and what are the basic jobs in it. This will be simplified for this can vary for certain games.

What jobs are in it?
Basically, the workers in game development are sprite artists, designers, animators, programmers, quality assurance, beta-testers, audio producers. Each one has a role that is important to be sure that the game is made and works properly.

What are sprite artists?
Sprites are 2D images in games. Those are made by the sprite artists. They make the characters, items, and weapons. This can either be pixel art, or painted images, but mostly these are for 2D games.

What are designers?
They have a similar job to sprite artists, but they make 3D models. They can also be the ones who make the background of games in either 3D or 2D games.

What are animators?
They make the magic happen! They use the sprites (2D) or models (3D) and animate them either through manual repainting the sprite each frame, altering the model each frame, or some third method that I forgot to list.

What is quality assurance?
The people in that team test the game to make sure that it works before being released. Either to live version of the game or to the beta testers. This job is normally to make sure that there are no errors in the code before making it available to the testers or those who are already playing the current version.

What are the beta-testers?
They have the fun part! Their role is to test the game and send feedback to the developers to make sure that the content is working and balanced. They can either be invited before the game is released (Closed beta), the game can already be on the store to be played by anyone (Open Beta), or players who are already using the released version can be invited to join a private beta for the next update.

What are audio producers?
Their job is to make the sounds effects (SFX) and background music (BGM). They can make the music and sounds either with real life objects and instruments or with computer generated sounds. There are multiple methods for composing the songs. According to Youtuber DM Dokuro, his method is to create the chords and melody as he goes. Inspiration for composing a song can come from literally anything.

  1. Interesting! I have not heard of sprite artists before :-)

Wondering if "beta-tester" should really be hyphenated.

Please read through the quality assurance section again. There are two sentences there that should be combined into a single sentence. Might as well check for other issues in the rest of the article too.
