How to make a Terraria server?

What is a Terraria dedicated server?
A Terraria dedicated server is a multiplayer world. You can set one of your worlds and turn it into a server, allowing people who know the IP address to join your world without you having to be in the world. You could just use the Host & Play option in the Terraria title screen. Though that means that if you leave the world, anyone who is in the world will be disconnected. It also means that only your friends on steam will be able to join.

What are the perks of making a dedicated server?
One of the advantages of making a dedicated server is that you can let anyone who knows the IP address to join without having to friend them on Steam (This is assuming you bought the PC version on Steam, since that is where the official Terraria site will lead you). Another pro of making a dedicated server is that you can leave and re-join the world at will without anyone having to disconnect. The final perk of using a dedicated server, you can change the time of day! How do I set up a dedicated server? To set up a dedicated server, go to your computers files and look for the files in (C: ). What it says next to it may vary depending on your computer, though it will still be (C: ). You know what, I'm just gonna write down the possible route down here.

This PC > Windows (C: ) > Program Files (x86) > Steam > steamapps > common > Terraria > TerrariaServer

Once you find the TerrariaServer application, it is suggested that you make a shortcut to it. Open it, to begin starting your dedicated server. You can select one of your existed worlds or make a new one. You can then set a password, port, and also make it automatically forward your port (I suggest you do that). Once the server is started, you can type in some commands to do various actions and type in the chat.

How do people join your server?
For someone to join your server, they will need to go to Terraria's title screen, then click on "Multiplayer", then "Join via IP". Once there, they must enter your IPv4 address. On Windows 10, you can find that by opening your wifi settings and opening the wifi network's properties. Scroll down, and you find your IPv4 address. Share that IP address with who you want to join.

  1. Do you mean to tell me you have finished or chosen not to continue the game development course on Open2Study?

  2. I am still going to continue that. You know that I'm supposed to post what I learned. I managed to learn 400 words of how to make a Terraria. Turns out, when I though my IP had 105, apparently it was 106.
