Ecosystems are communities of organisms and non-living things that interact with each other. An ecosystem is determined based on the amont of sun, amount of rainfall and, properties of the soil. For example, a tropical desert has large amounts of sunlight, little rainfall, and the soil is inadequate for growing plants. The area in an ecosystem where a organism lives is called habitat. For example, a fish's habitat in a forest ecosystem is a lake. (Bonus fact: Cacti are the only plants that can grow in a desert because they only grow in areas in a desert where it rains. Their roots spread out to collect water and store it.)
