Homework Assignment: This is my Body

This is my body. I thought it was time you were formally introduced. I mean, you've been staring at it all night. I thought things were getting kinda impolite. So I thought it's time to bring over mine to meet yours. Go ahead, take it in. This is my body.

It’s here for me to move in, for me to see and hear and smell and touch. It's here for me to do in. As you may have noticed, none of these functions are for you to stare at it, or grab it as I pass you on the street, or comment on the size or shape or quality of it, as if it were up to your review. This is my body.

It's here for me to dream in, for me to travel foreign seas in. It's here for me to find truth and write poetry in, for me to climb mountains in and tear apart arguments in. Watch starry skies in and fight for my life in. This is my body. It's here for me to share intimacies in. Like give a hug, and dry a tear, and hold a dying hand; for me to dance like we have no sorries and tomorrow doesn’t scare the shit out of us. This is my body.

It's here for me to be strong in, and for me to lift weights and battle disease in, and for me to run miles and move continents in, and for me to raise fists of solidarity and punch in the face of oppression. And this is my body. It is not here for you to loudly tell me what you would like to do with it. I came over here to clarify: This? This is my body. I suggest you find your own.
