What on Earth is osmosis?

Osmosis is when water goes through a semi-permeable membrane. Osmosis can only occur if the following requirments are present. One of the requirements is that the solution of water and some other substance is hypertonic or hypotonic relative to the solution on the other side of the membrane. Hypertonic means that the solution has more solid, such as salt, dissolved into the water than the liquid on the other side of the membrane. In the screenshot below, the water on side A is hypertonic and side B is hypotonic. Since side A is hypertonic, water will flow into side A to balance out the ratio between the amount of salt and water in both solutions.
