Here are some tips in order to achieve the optimal performance of your Wi-Fi connection. These tips are all based on experience and what was already known when I wrote this. A bit of research had to be done to see how some of these programs and products work.
The first thing you must do is to first understand the difference between a modem and a router.
A modem is a device that is allows your device to be connected to the internet. You can connect your computer to the modem by using an Ethernet cable or by using a router.
A router is another device that creates a wireless connection to your computer and transmits that information to your modem. It connects wirelessly to devices within its range, then the router is connected to the modem also by an Ethernet cable.
The first tip is to see at which angle is the Wi-Fi quality at the best. Try testing the Wi-Fi quality pointed at the computers 3 times and repeat the process but with the antenna pointed straight up. After testing the quality, calculate for the average to see at which is the Wi-Fi is better. You want high speed (kb/s) and low ping (ms).
There are products and programs that can be purchased in order to maximize your Wi-Fi performance. Being connected to the router while being nearby other users causes traffic that weakens your connection. The Portal Wi-Fi Router prevents that problem by giving your device its own separate "route" to it, allowing to not have traffic. It also has 9 internal antennas for you to not loose connection so easily. Here's the link to Portal Wi-Fi's website

WTFast is a program that gives you great performance in online gaming. Back to the internet traffic, that happens because there are billions of devices all transmitting information all over the world. WTFast gives your computer a private route to relay the information. Since there is no traffic, the information is able to go around faster, preventing lag. But of course, having private routes to bring information to game servers can't exactly be free or that cheap. Here's the link to WTFast.
Remember, sometimes the performance in-game and sometimes other programs can still not have such high performance despite good Wi-Fi since your laptop might not able to process the information.
Examples of games not effected by slow Wi-Fi: Halo: Spartan Strike, Halo: Spartan Assault, Terraria Mobile Edition, Terraria (Singleplayer)
